Walla Walla Home Care Leadership Journey: Blair Morgan’s Path to Branch Manager
A career in home care is rarely linear, but for Blair Morgan, every step along the way helped shape the compassionate, grounded leader she is today. Blair’s Walla Walla home care leadership journey is rooted in hands-on experience, deep empathy, and a passion for helping people feel seen, supported, and understood.
Today, Blair serves as Branch Manager in Walla Walla, but her path to leadership began long before her title changed.
Finding Her Calling in Senior Care
Blair’s career in senior care began in 2015–2016, working in activities within a senior living community. At the time, memory care felt intimidating.
“I was terrified of memory care at first,” Blair shared. “But once I stepped into it, I realized that was where I was meant to be.”
That decision to lean into the uncomfortable became a defining theme in Blair’s Walla Walla home care leadership journey. She went on to work with another agency in Oregon in a hybrid role that blended client support and marketing, allowing her to see both the operational and human sides of care.
Then, COVID changed everything.
She recalls visiting seniors who hadn’t seen their families in months. “They would ask me for hugs,” she said. “That was heartbreaking.”
Heartbreak, Growth, and Resilience
After COVID, Blair transitioned into a memory care community as a Marketing Director, a role she describes as her “jam.” It combined relationship-building, advocacy, and education, all things she deeply loved.
When Blair relocated to Walla Walla two years ago, finding the right role proved challenging. She briefly worked in child welfare for the state of Oregon, an experience that further solidified her desire to help, but also highlighted systemic limitations.
“I wanted to help so badly, but the system itself needs fixing,” she explained. “That was a whole other level of heartbreak.”
That clarity pushed her back toward home care.
Coming Full Circle at Family Resource Home Care
Blair initially applied for a Branch Manager position in Walla Walla, but timing didn’t align. Rather than seeing it as a setback, she trusted the process.
“A couple of months later, I saw the Client Care Supervisor role open at Family Resource Home Care,” she said. “It felt like it was meant to be.”
That decision became a pivotal moment in her Walla Walla home care leadership journey.
As a Client Care Supervisor (CCS), Blair immersed herself in learning: meeting clients, building trust with caregivers, mastering systems, and strengthening community partnerships with hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and community centers.
“The CCS role really set me up for success,” Blair shared. “It was an essential stepping stone.”
Leading With Experience, Not Just a Playbook
Blair believes leadership in home care must be rooted in lived experience.
“You can read the playbook,” she said, “but if you haven’t played the game, you don’t actually know how to do it.”
Her background allows her to “smooth out the edges” when reading the room, adapting communication styles, and understanding the emotional weight clients and caregivers carry every day. Even though her time as a CCS was brief, it laid the foundation for trust.
“It helped my team see me as a peer,” she explained. “Someone who could get the job done and be reliable.”
This hands-on understanding continues to define her Walla Walla home care leadership journey today.
Advice for Clients and Caregivers
Blair offers thoughtful guidance for those new to home care.
To clients and families, she encourages a shift in perspective:
“People’s pictures are smaller. Something that feels insignificant to us might be their whole world.”
She emphasizes grace, patience, and communication.
“Home care is a lot to take in. Please call us, we do this every day and we’re here to help.”
To caregivers, her advice is equally grounded:
“Humble yourself. Every client is different. Put yourself in their shoes—they’re vulnerable, and this is personal and intimate.”
The Power of Mentorship
When asked what made the biggest difference in her growth, Blair didn’t hesitate.
“My saving grace was having a mentor,” she said. “I wouldn’t have learned half of what I know without them.”
Blair credits mentors like Morgan in Palouse/Lewiston-Clarkston Valley and Angie in Tri-Cities for helping her navigate leadership pressures, ask questions without fear, and grow with confidence.
“It made me feel welcomed and prioritized,” she shared. “Mentorship gave me space to learn and fix things.”
