Errands & Transportation

Family Resource Home Care provides quality assistance with Errands, Shopping, and Transportation

Assistance with accomplishing tasks outside the home is key to helping older adults maintain their independence. Whether the client is homebound or simply unable to drive anymore, receiving needed help with errands and shopping can allow them to stay active and engaged in life.

All of our qualified caregivers:

  • Are required to have their own car
  • Are fully licensed
  • Carry insurance
  • Have safe driving records

They can help the older adult by doing the shopping and errands for them or by providing the transportation and assistance required by the person to accomplish these tasks themselves.

What services are available through Family Resource Home Care?

Help with errands, shopping, and transportation falls under the category of Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs). These are the complex skills that are necessary in order to live independently and that all of us do once we are up, out of bed, dressed, and ready to start our day.

Family Resource provides assistance with these tasks because we understand that many older adults can continue to live independently when they have help with IADLs. Shopping and errands can be done either with the client or by the caregiver alone.

Examples of the types of Transportation, Errands, and Shopping assistance we provide include but are not limited to:
  • Doctor/dental appointments
  • Barbershop/hairdresser and nail salon
  • Visits to the senior center, family events, and community activities
  • Grocery store/pharmacy
  • Department store shopping
  • Dining out and other leisure activities

The presence of a trained caregiver enables your loved one to move around safely. If shopping with their client, a Family Resource caregiver will assist their client with getting in and out of the vehicle, along with any adaptive equipment they may use including walkers and wheelchairs. Caregivers can push grocery carts, carry groceries and other purchases, and put things away once they have returned home.

If shopping without the client, the caregiver will go to the store of the client’s choice with a list of needed items. Our caregivers can use cash or a pre-paid store card provided by the client. Following the errand or shopping trip, the caregiver will return the card or change along with receipt so that the client or their family member can reconcile the purchase. Caregivers do not use a client’s credit card or checks.

How do you establish Errand, Shopping, and Transportation Services?

At Family Resource Home Care, we start by listening.

Every client and family is different and has their own story to tell. We learn all we can about the senior from their health history to current lifestyle, interests, and concerns. We work with the senior to determine what goals are important to them and what needs they have. We’ll also talk to family members to learn more and build a complete understanding of the client.

We carefully select and screen our caregivers with thorough background checks, required references, and an in-depth interview. We only work with caregivers who are genuinely nice and care about their clients. Every Family Resource caregiver is trained and has their own insured vehicle, making shopping and errands simple. However, if you or your loved one prefer that the caregiver drive your car, that can also be arranged.
