Heroic Caregiver Izabella Brown: A Lifesaving Act in Tri-Cities

A Day Like Any Other…

For Izabella Brown, a caregiver at our Tri-Cities Branch, the day started as any other. Like every dedicated caregiver, her mission was to ensure her client’s safety and well-being. Little did she know, this day would test her in ways she never anticipated.

An Alarming Discovery

Upon arriving at her client’s home, Izabella knocked on the door but received no response. Concerned, she called the branch and connected with the Customer Service Representative team, who tried to reach the client by phone. After several unanswered calls, Izabella was advised to wait 30 minutes for further instructions.

While waiting, Izabella continued to problem-solve a way into the home. Her determination paid off when she managed to unlock the door. Inside, she found her client unconscious on the couch, with a white substance around his mouth and a pill bottle on the floor. Though he was still breathing, he was unresponsive.

Quick Thinking in a Crisis

Faced with a life-threatening situation, Izabella’s training and instincts kicked in. She immediately called 911, setting in motion a chain of events that would save her client’s life. The Tri-Cities team and CSR team, worked swiftly to notify the client’s responsible party and case manager while Izabella stayed by her client’s side.

When EMTs arrived, they administered Narcan, intubated the client, and rushed him to the hospital. Izabella followed, ensuring that her client received the care he needed during this critical time.

A Life Saved

Izabella’s calm and decisive actions made all the difference. Though her client remained unconscious when she left the hospital, she knew that she had done everything possible to save his life. After several days in the ICU, the client is now being discharged and transferred for further treatment.
