Career paths don’t always follow a straight line. For Priscilla, her caregiver to Caregiver Manager career journey began with a bold decision to leave a long-established career and pursue something more meaningful: helping others.
Today, Priscilla serves as a Caregiver Manager at Family Resource Home Care in the Tacoma Branch, where she supports caregivers, builds strong client relationships, and helps ensure that compassionate care reaches families who need it most. Her story highlights how empathy, experience, and a desire to improve lives can shape a fulfilling career in home care.
A Bold Career Change Into Healthcare
Before beginning her caregiver to Caregiver Manager career journey, Priscilla spent 16 years working in marketing within the food manufacturing industry. While she enjoyed interacting with people, she eventually felt called to do work that had a deeper impact. “I was in marketing for 16 years,” Priscilla explains. “Then in 2023 I decided to challenge myself and go into healthcare.” She began her transition by working in an Adult Family Home, earning her HCA and CNA credentials while gaining hands-on experience caring for seniors. Over six months, she built strong connections with residents and learned the daily realities of caregiving. That experience confirmed she had made the right decision. “The world needs more kindness and more people who care about people,” she says. “That’s really what propelled me into healthcare.” This moment marked the true beginning of her caregiver to Caregiver Manager career journey.
Becoming a Lead Caregiver
After gaining valuable experience in an Adult Family Home, Priscilla joined Family Resource Home Care as a Lead Caregiver at the Puyallup Branch. In this role, she spent months supporting clients while also helping guide fellow caregivers. Her leadership skills from her previous career began to emerge naturally, making her a strong resource for both the field team and the branch office. She worked as a Lead Caregiver for about eight months, from April through December, and was just beginning to feel settled into the position when an unexpected opportunity appeared. Her Caregiver Manager reached out to let her know she would be moving to another branch and believed Priscilla would be a great fit for the current Caregiver Manager role. “I was just getting settled into the Lead Caregiver position,” Priscilla recalls. “But when the opportunity came up, it felt like things aligned the way they were meant to.” With her management background and caregiving experience, stepping into the role felt like a natural progression in her caregiver to Caregiver Manager career journey.
Supporting Caregivers Through Real Experience
One of the biggest advantages Priscilla brings to her leadership role is firsthand caregiving experience. She understands what caregivers face each day because she has been there herself. That perspective allows her to better support her team and build strong caregiver-client relationships. “Every individual is different,” she explains. “But when you have a caregiver and a client who are a good match, everything works out perfectly.” As a Caregiver Manager, one of her priorities is making sure caregivers feel supported and never feel alone in their work. “I always tell my caregivers that I’m here for them,” she says. “They’re not alone out there.” Providing that level of encouragement and guidance is a meaningful part of her caregiver to Caregiver Manager career journey.
Creating the Right Caregiver-Client Connections
Priscilla also focuses on the importance of communication and connection when matching caregivers with clients. Her experience in Adult Family Homes allowed her to work with multiple clients at once, which helped her understand the different needs and personalities that exist in home care. She believes listening carefully to both caregivers and clients is essential. “Communication is so important,” she explains. “Sometimes we don’t always get it right, but we work really hard to make those connections and find the right fit.” Behind the scenes, she works continuously to ensure that both caregivers and clients feel supported and confident in the care relationship. This thoughtful approach continues to shape her caregiver to Caregiver Manager career journey.
The Unique Value of Home Care
Through her experience in caregiving, Priscilla has also gained a deep appreciation for the unique impact of home care services. For many clients, inviting someone into their home can initially feel uncomfortable. “It’s very unique because clients are allowing strangers to come into their homes and help them,” she says. “That can be scary at first.” But home care provides something incredibly meaningful, individualized support that allows people to continue living the life they want. “You’re getting care that’s tailored directly to your needs,” Priscilla explains. “You still get to live the way you want to live while we support you.” This philosophy continues to guide her caregiver to Caregiver Manager career journey and the work she does every day.
The Rewarding Impact of Caregiving
Priscilla also encourages caregivers to recognize the powerful impact they can have on clients’ lives. Home care allows caregivers to build meaningful relationships with the people they support. “Sometimes you might be the only person a client sees all week,” she says. “You get to hear their life stories and share moments with them.” Those small interactions often become the most meaningful. “When a client says thank you at the end of the day or calls the branch to compliment the care they received—that’s incredibly rewarding.” These moments reinforce why her caregiver to Caregiver Manager career journey has been such a fulfilling experience.
Looking Ahead
Today, Priscilla continues to grow in her role while supporting caregivers and clients throughout the community. She believes that working in elder care is one of the most meaningful professions someone can choose. “Being in the elder care field is truly a rewarding experience,” she says. “And being part of a company that aligns with the path I’m on makes it even more meaningful.” At Family Resource Home Care, the mission is to improve more lives—and Priscilla sees that commitment not only in the care provided to clients, but also in the opportunities employees have to grow. Her caregiver to Caregiver Manager career journey is proof that with compassion, dedication, and the right support, a career in caregiving can lead to powerful opportunities to lead, serve, and make a difference every day.
