Kiffen began her career as an overnight Customer Service Representative (CSR), a role that placed her on the front lines during some of the most challenging moments families and caregivers experience. “I started at Family Resource Home Care as an overnight CSR, working directly with caregivers and clients handling scheduling needs, urgent situations, and last-minute changes that are common in home care,” she shared. Working nights meant that Kiffen often connected with families during high-stress moments, when care plans shifted suddenly, caregivers needed immediate support, or loved ones needed reassurance. Through this experience, she quickly learned how critical responsiveness, empathy, and clear communication are in home care.

“Working nights meant we often handled situations when families were already stressed or when caregivers needed immediate support,” Kiffen explained. “I quickly learned how important responsiveness and clear communication are.” This early experience laid the foundation for Kiffen’s journey at Family Resource Home Care, giving her a deep appreciation for the coordination and teamwork required to support both caregivers and clients successfully.

Seeing the Bigger Picture Behind Home Care

As Kiffen grew in her CSR role, she gained insight into the emotional weight families carry while navigating care decisions. “I also saw how emotional and stressful things can become for families when care needs change or when they are trying to help a loved one remain safely at home,” she said. That understanding sparked her desire to expand her skills and support families in new ways. When the opportunity arose to move into billing and accounts receivable, it felt like a natural next step. “Some of the most stressful times in life involve caring for loved ones while also trying to keep finances and important affairs in order,” Kiffen shared. “When the opportunity came to move into billing and accounts receivable, it felt like a natural next step.”

In her current role, she continues to support families, just from a different angle. Kiffen’s journey at Family Resource Home Care reflects the organization’s belief that every department plays a vital role in improving lives. “In billing, I’m now able to help families navigate the financial side of care, answer questions, and make things clearer so they are not overwhelmed during an already emotional time,” she explained.

Supporting Clients with Empathy and Perspective

Because Kiffen has worked directly in scheduling and client support, she brings a unique level of empathy to her current position. “Families often reach billing after they have already dealt with a lot,” Kiffen shared. “My goal is to make the financial side of things as straightforward and manageable as possible.”

She also understands how essential teamwork is across departments, noting that collaboration directly impacts the experience for caregivers and clients alike. “When billing, scheduling, and care teams communicate well, it creates a better experience for both caregivers and clients,” she said.

Understanding the Heart of Home Care

One of the most meaningful lessons from Kiffen’s journey at Family Resource Home Care is her deep appreciation for the emotional connections built in home care even behind the scenes. “I don’t think many families realize how connected we become to the people we serve,” she reflected. “We celebrate their milestones and happy moments, and we also feel the loss when one of them passes.” Over time, she says, clients truly become part of the Family Resource extended family. For caregivers, Kiffen emphasizes the powerful impact of even small acts of care.

“Even small acts of care can mean everything to a client and their family,” she shared. “Home care truly works best when caregivers, office staff, clients, and families all work together.”

Reflecting on her career path, Kiffen credits growth to stepping outside her comfort zone and staying open to learning. “One of the biggest lessons I have learned is that growth often comes from being willing to step outside your comfort zone,” she said.

“Growing up, my dad once asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up,” she said. “I just wanted to be someone’s hero… Even helping improve someone’s life by one percent felt meaningful to me.” Today, that mindset continues to guide her work. “Being part of a company whose purpose is to improve more lives makes this work feel especially meaningful,” Kiffen reflected. And through her journey, it’s clear, she’s doing exactly what she set out to do.
