A Journey Rooted in Connection
When Alyssa Snider first stepped into the world of caregiving, she wasn’t expecting it to change her life. Having moved from Las Vegas to Oregon, she began working with Helping Hands, a home care agency that later was acquired by Family Resource Home Care and turned into the Salem Branch. It was during these early days as a caregiver that she realized the profound impact of building relationships with her clients.
“One of my first clients was such a sweetheart. We clicked right away over music and shared interests,” Alyssa recalls. “He was open-minded and loved telling me stories about his younger days. That’s when I really started to fall in love with caregiving.”
Initially, Alyssa had only experienced caregiving in a personal capacity, stepping in to help her grandmother when needed. But her time with clients like this one made her see the work in a new light. It was about more than just providing assistance—it was about connection, about understanding someone’s life and their history and carrying a little piece of them with her.
Another client, in Dallas, Oregon, reminded her of her grandfather, who had passed away. This particular client was in the early stages of dementia, and as his condition declined, Alyssa found herself at his side frequently. “Being able to care for him felt like fulfilling something I had lost with my grandfather’s passing,” she shares. “I had to leave when his needs became more intensive, but I still carry pieces of him with me.”
Growing into Leadership
Alyssa’s deep compassion and natural ability to connect with clients didn’t go unnoticed. When she moved into the role of Caregiver Manager, she made it a priority to instill that same level of care in her team.
“I always told my caregivers, ‘Take care of these clients as if they were your own family.’ That was how I saw it,” she says. “Being a Caregiver Manager was a huge eye-opener. I felt myself blossoming, becoming more of a people person, and truly understanding the depth of what our clients go through.”
Over the course of three years as a Caregiver Manager in Salem, Alyssa worked tirelessly to support her team. She was always looking for new ways to encourage them, helping them see things from a client’s perspective. “I wanted to be a manager my team could lean on. Someone they could talk to about anything,” she says.
Her transition to Branch Manager in McMinnville was a natural next step. Having spent years in caregiving and a management role, she felt ready to guide an entire branch. “I’ve had so much support from people within Family Resource Home Care,” Alyssa says. “I wouldn’t be where I am without them. The organization, the mentorship—it’s all helped me grow into this role.”
Alyssa Leading the McMinnville Branch
Now, as the McMinnville Branch Manager, Alyssa has a clear vision for her team and the caregivers under her leadership.
“My goal is to provide support and direction—to build a branch that not only grows but maintains strong relationships between office staff, clients, and caregivers,” she explains. “It all comes down to one goal: improving more lives.”
This philosophy is something she continuously shares with her team. “I want this to be something that transfers to all areas of their lives. No matter where caregivers go, they should always know they have a place at Family Resource Home Care,” she says. “Even if things don’t work out the first time, they can always come back.”
Advice for Caregivers and Clients
Alyssa has words of wisdom for those new to home care, whether they are caregivers stepping into a client’s home for the first time or seniors hesitant about receiving care.
“For caregivers, I always say, ‘You don’t know unless you try.’ It’s scary at first—walking into a stranger’s home, unsure of what to do—but that’s how you learn. You build bonds in the most unexpected ways,” she says. “Even if caregiving isn’t a long-term career for someone, the skills and experiences you gain can help you care for your own family members down the road.”
For clients, she wants to break down the misconceptions around home care. “Even if you don’t need assistance with things like bathing or dressing, companionship care can make all the difference,” she says. “So many seniors don’t get out much, and that isolation can be hard. Having someone there, even just one day a week can really improve their quality of life.”
A Career—and a Community—Worth Investing In
Looking back at her journey, Alyssa is deeply grateful for the path that led her to Family Resource Home Care.
“I truly believe Family Resource Home Care is the best company to work for. And if you’re a client, it’s the best company to receive care from,” she says. “It’s flexible, honest, and supportive. No matter who you talk to, the communication and encouragement are amazing.”
She has no desire to leave, knowing that Family Resource Home Care has not only shaped her career but helped her grow as an individual. “This company has built me up,” she says. “And now, as a Branch Manager, I get to do the same for my team and the clients we serve.”
