A Home Care Journey Rooted in Family and Growth
Every meaningful career in home care begins with a personal story, and for Emily Fallon, that journey started with family. Nearly eight years ago, Emily’s grandfather suffered a stroke. At the time, she had no caregiving experience, but she stepped in to care for him during one of the most difficult seasons of his life.
“Taking care of my grandfather for about a year and a half until he passed was what introduced me to caregiving,” Emily shared. Through that experience, she discovered not only the realities of care but also a deep sense of compassion, patience, and purpose that would ultimately shape her career.
After her grandfather passed away, Emily continued caregiving professionally. She first worked privately with clients before eventually joining Home Care Heroes, an organization that later became part of Family Resource Home Care in early 2025. Following the transition, Emily continued caregiving before deciding to take the next step in her career.
“I stayed on as a caregiver for a few weeks after the acquisition, then applied for the Caregiver Manager role and was offered the position,” she explained.
Leading with Experience and Compassion
As a Caregiver Manager, Emily brought firsthand experience into leadership. Having worked directly in clients’ homes herself, she understood the importance of thoughtful scheduling, caregiver support, and meaningful client-caregiver matches.
“Because I’ve been a caregiver, I always keep that perspective in mind,” Emily said. “I know what it feels like to walk into new situations and face things you’ve never done before.”
She remembers moments early in her career that felt intimidating, including learning hands-on care tasks for the first time. Those experiences now help her mentor and encourage newer caregivers who may feel nervous or overwhelmed.
Emily became known for offering practical advice, real-world guidance, and reassurance during orientations and trainings. She focused on helping caregivers feel supported, prepared, and confident in their roles while reminding them that growth comes with time and experience.
Supporting Families Through Home Care
Emily’s background also gave her a unique understanding of the emotions families experience when beginning home care services. She believes compassionate communication and trust are essential parts of quality care.
She often reassured families who felt hesitant about accepting help, reminding them that everyone needs support at different points in life. Emily emphasized that home care is not about losing independence—it is about creating safety, comfort, and quality of life while allowing people to remain in the place they know and love most: home.
She also encouraged patience when finding the right caregiver match, recognizing how important those relationships become for both clients and families.
A Career Path That Continued to Grow
Although Emily never originally planned to work in home care, she discovered a career that aligned perfectly with her values and strengths. While attending Portland State University, she imagined a very different future for herself, but caregiving ultimately became the path that felt most meaningful.
“We all have ideas of how life is supposed to go, but it’s okay for those plans to change,” she reflected. “Sometimes the unexpected path becomes the right one.”
Her dedication, leadership, and compassion continued to stand out within Family Resource Home Care, and in 2026, Emily was promoted to Branch Manager of our Eugene branch. In her new leadership role, she now oversees branch operations while continuing to support caregivers, clients, and families with the same empathy and understanding that first brought her into caregiving years ago.
Continuing to Make a Difference
Emily’s journey is a reminder that some of the most impactful careers begin with simply showing up for someone you love. From caring for her grandfather to leading an entire branch, her story reflects the heart of home care: compassion, connection, and service to others.
Today, as Branch Manager of the Eugene branch, Emily continues to help caregivers grow, support families through important transitions, and create a positive impact in the lives of those she serves every day.
