Transitioning from a caregiver to a leadership role is no small feat, but for Trinity Snider, it felt like the natural next step. As a Caregiver Manager in the Portland West (Tigard, Oregon) Branch, but previously in the Salem, Oregon branch, Trinity has a unique perspective that allows her to bridge the gap between caregivers and clients, creating a smoother and more supportive experience for everyone involved.
A Path Rooted in Care and Communication
Trinity’s journey into caregiving began in October 2021 when she started with Helping Hands, a decision driven by the need for flexibility while attending college. When Family Resource Home Care acquired the company, she continued her work as a caregiver, often spending time at the office due to her clients’ complex needs.
“I had one client in particular that I was with for a year, and I became really attached to her,” Trinity shared. However, when Medicaid reduced her client’s hours, she found herself at a crossroads—either find a new client or step into the role of Caregiver Manager. With a deep understanding of caregivers’ needs and an innate passion for supporting them, Trinity made the leap.
Currently majoring in American Sign Language to English Interpreting, she sees a strong connection between her studies and her role. “My major helps with communication and making sure caregivers understand everything during orientation,” she explained. She takes great joy in welcoming new hires and ensuring they feel confident stepping into their caregiving roles. While she is currently based in the Portland West (Tigard, Oregon) Branch, she recently transferred from the Salem, Oregon branch and is set to graduate in June.
Trinity Leading with Experience and Empathy
One of the most valuable aspects of Trinity’s leadership is her firsthand experience as a caregiver. “I know your side,” she says, emphasizing how her background allows her to truly understand the challenges and triumphs that caregivers face daily.
She believes communication is key to success in-home care, both for caregivers and clients. “Bridging the gap between them is so important. Life happens, and things don’t always go as planned, but good communication makes everything smoother.” Her approach ensures that caregivers feel supported while clients receive the high-quality care they need in the comfort of their own homes.
The Impact of Home Care: A Client and Caregiver Perspective
For clients, home care offers something invaluable—the ability to remain in their own homes. “You get to stay home and have a built-in friend who will help with daily struggles and make life a little easier,” Trinity explains.
For caregivers, the work is equally rewarding. “There’s a sense of completeness that comes from helping someone stay in their home,” she says. She recalls a personal experience with her nana, who struggled with the transition into a care facility and longed to return home. “That familiarity, the stimuli of their own space, it makes all the difference.” She reminds caregivers that they’re not just providing a service—they’re becoming a vital part of someone’s family.
