When instincts, compassion, and courage come together, lives are changed.

A Routine Visit Turns Into a Life-Saving Intervention

At Family Resource Home Care’s Sunnyside branch, caregiving isn’t just about physical support—it’s about protecting dignity, safety, and well-being. Recently, this commitment was powerfully demonstrated by Caregiver Amanda Villa and Client Care Manager Katie Harrington, whose quick thinking and unwavering advocacy helped rescue a client from an abusive environment. This is the story of how Lifesaver Amanda and Katie stood tall when no one else would listen.

The Client’s Silent Plea for Help

The client had tried before to share her experience of abuse but was heartbreakingly ignored. When Amanda arrived for a routine visit and received no answer at the door, she didn’t simply walk away. Something didn’t feel right, so she reached out to her supervisor, Katie Harrington. Katie, trusting Amanda’s instincts, encouraged her to keep knocking and to stay at the home. Amanda’s persistence paid off. Eventually, a male party opened the door but was reluctant to let her in. When Amanda was finally allowed entry, what she saw inside confirmed her concerns: a room in disarray, and a terrified client crying for help.

Taking Immediate, Decisive Action

Without hesitation, Amanda contacted Katie again, detailing the disturbing situation. Katie immediately called 911. Amanda stayed close to the client, offering reassurance and comfort while emergency responders were en route. Katie, simultaneously, began the difficult work of contacting the client’s family—even when met with anger and dismissal. She also reported the incident to the case manager and kept Branch Manager Angela Gunter updated for further support. Their calm coordination under pressure ensured every step was taken to protect the client and ensure she was not left behind again.

A Team Effort That Embodies Our Values

Because of the heroic response from Lifesaver Amanda and the steadfast leadership of Katie Harrington, the client was safely removed from the dangerous situation and is now receiving the care she needs. Their actions reflect the very best of our Tri-Cities/Sunnyside team. They refused to turn away. They listened. They acted. And they made a difference. Lifesaver Amanda and Katie showed what true caregiving looks like—being the voice and the shield for those who need it most.
