Finding Purpose in Tri-Cities, Washington

When Heather Rex first set foot into the world of home care, she had no idea that her journey would take her from hands-on caregiving to shaping the future of caregivers at Family Resource Home Care. Before joining the company, Heather spent eight years as a medical assistant and earned her Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Administration. She then worked in various supervisory and management positions but felt an urge to expand her knowledge and experience in home care.

That’s when she discovered the Caregiver Manager position at Family Resource Home Care. “At the time, I hadn’t heard of the company, but after doing some research, I found some really great reviews,” Heather recalls. Her interview with Angie and Krista at the Tri-Cities, Washington, office solidified her decision. “They really showcased the values of the company. I could see that they truly embodied the motto of improving more lives, and that’s exactly what I wanted—to have a sense of purpose every day.”

Growing into a Leadership Role

For over a year, Heather worked as a Caregiver Manager, where she built strong connections with both caregivers and clients. She thrived in the role, offering support and guidance while developing practical tips to help caregivers navigate their work more effectively. It was during this time that she realized she had a passion for training and mentorship.

“When I heard about the Field Training Specialist position, I knew it was the perfect fit for me. I loved leading caregiver orientations and helping new hires feel engaged and encouraged. I wanted to pass along everything I had learned to help others be the best versions of themselves.”

Embracing the Role of Field Training Specialist

Now, as a Field Training Specialist, Heather plays a crucial role in training new Caregiver Managers and Client Care Supervisors. The position is both remote and travel-based, allowing her to support branches across the Inland Northwest and beyond as needed. “We check in with all new administrative staff every week for the first month, and then we do thorough check-ins at the four, eight, and twelve-week marks. If they need extra training or support, we make sure they get it.”

She also works closely with mentors, understanding that their workload can be overwhelming. “We are just one big happy family, constantly communicating to stay up to date on best practices. Our goal is to create consistency within the company so that everyone, from the newest hire to the most experienced employee, is on the same page.”

Advice for Those Looking to Join Family Resource Home Care

Heather is a firm believer in taking the leap. “If you’re thinking about joining Family Resource Home Care, just do it,” she says enthusiastically. To potential clients and their families, she offers a simple piece of advice: “Reach out to us. Read our reviews. Many people don’t realize the full range of services we provide, but we are here to take care of you and your loved ones.”

For caregivers considering a career with the company, Heather’s message is clear: “If you have a desire to help people, this is the place for you. If you want to know that what you do every day makes a difference, join us. Our purpose is to improve more lives, and there is no other job that will make you prouder.”

She also encourages current caregivers to explore growth opportunities within the company. “If you’re interested in moving up, ask about new positions. Don’t think that just because you’re a caregiver, you can’t do more. We will help you grow with us.”

A Journey Filled with Meaning

Reflecting happily on her journey, Heather recalls one particularly memorable moment—her final interview for the Field Training Specialist position. “I was in Disney World, and I lost my voice right before the last interview. I thought I had completely botched it.” But soon after, she received a call from Gina with the exciting news: she had gotten the job. “I was beyond excited but could barely express it because I had no voice! It was such a surreal and wonderful moment.”
