Ashley Martinez’s journey to becoming a Client Care Supervisor at Family Resource Home Care’s Corvallis Branch is a testament to her dedication and passion for caregiving. Originally from Central Valley, California, Ashley made a significant move that led to her pursuing her career and education in the Pacific Northwest. After earning her CNA certification from Linn-Benton Community College and working at the VA home in Lebanon, she shifted her focus to special education at the local high school. Despite these diverse experiences, Ashley found her true calling when she joined Family Resource Home Care.

Ashley Finds Her True Calling

Ashley’s transition to Family Resource Home Care came at a pivotal time. She had been feeling unsatisfied in her previous roles and was looking for a change. The decision to join Family Resource Home Care was encouraged by a former colleague, and it proved to be a perfect fit. “I was caring for my 76-year-old grandma and was used to that kind of work, so becoming a caregiver felt like a natural step,” Ashley shares. She embraced her caregiving role with enthusiasm, balancing her responsibilities as a caregiver with her studies at Oregon State University, where she pursued a degree in Human Development and Family Sciences.

Graduating in June 2024, Ashley saw the Client Care Supervisor position as an opportunity to leverage her academic background and practical experience. Her passion for helping others, deeply rooted in her family experiences and past work, made the transition seamless. “It felt like a great fit because I love helping and caring for others. It’s incredibly gratifying,” she explains.

Empathy and Experience in Action

In her new role as Client Care Supervisor, Ashley draws on her firsthand experience as a caregiver. She understands the day-to-day challenges and the emotional and physical demands of the job. “Bringing on new clients and developing care plans is something I’m familiar with, and I try to be as detail-oriented as possible,” Ashley says. Her background in working with dementia and Alzheimer’s patients at the VA Home has provided her with valuable insights into managing and calming clients, which she now applies in her supervisory role.

Ashley’s approach is rooted in empathy and practical advice. She focuses on maintaining clear communication with caregivers, helping them navigate the complexities of their roles, and ensuring they feel supported. “Each client is unique, and it’s crucial to recognize and address their individual needs,” she notes.

Her advice to those considering a career in caregiving reflects her own experiences and the rewards of the job. “If you’re empathetic and compassionate and want to make a direct impact on someone’s daily life, caregiving is for you,” she encourages. “It’s not always easy, but forming meaningful relationships and making a difference in someone’s life is incredibly fulfilling.”

She recalls a particularly touching moment with a client who had rheumatoid arthritis. “One client told me that the highlight of her day was when her caregivers came in. It was heart-wrenching, but I knew that for those few hours, I could bring some joy and comfort into her life,” Ashley remembers.
