Serenity’s Quick Thinking Helped Save her Client’s Life

At Family Resource Home Care, caregivers do more than provide assistance with daily tasks. They build relationships with clients, notice subtle changes in their well-being, and take action when something seems wrong. That attentiveness can make all the difference during a medical emergency, as it did for Serenity from our Moses Lake branch.

Serenity’s quick thinking, compassion, and decisive response helped ensure her client received lifesaving medical care when every moment mattered. We are proud to recognize her with the Life Saver Award.

Recognizing the Warning Signs

When Serenity arrived at her client’s home for a routine visit, she immediately sensed that something was not right. The client appeared different than usual, and Serenity trusted her instincts that something was off.

Remaining calm, she began asking the client questions about how she was feeling and carefully observed her responses. As the conversation continued, Serenity noticed signs of confusion and became increasingly concerned about her client’s condition.

She encouraged the client to sit down and offered her water while continuing to assess the situation. Shortly afterward, the client stopped responding appropriately and began visibly shaking.

At that moment, Serenity recognized that the situation was becoming critical and required immediate medical attention.

Acting Quickly During an Emergency

Without hesitation, Serenity called 911 and stayed with her client while emergency responders were on their way.

When EMS arrived, they quickly assessed the client and discovered that one of her pupils was unresponsive. Based on her symptoms, responders suspected a possible stroke and transported her to the hospital for further evaluation.

Throughout the emergency, Serenity remained by her client’s side, providing support and reassurance during an understandably frightening situation.

At the hospital, medical staff determined that the client’s blood glucose level had dropped to a dangerously low level of 31, creating a life-threatening medical emergency. Medical professionals indicated that immediate intervention was critical to preventing a much more serious outcome.

Because Serenity recognized the warning signs and acted quickly, her client received emergency care before the situation became even more dangerous.

The Importance of Attentive Caregivers

Caregivers often know their clients better than anyone. They become familiar with their routines, behaviors, and normal patterns, allowing them to recognize subtle changes that others may miss.

Serenity’s attentiveness demonstrates the vital role caregivers play in protecting the health and safety of those they serve. By trusting her instincts, remaining calm under pressure, and taking immediate action, she helped ensure her client received the urgent medical care she needed.

Her client later shared that Serenity’s quick response saved her life. She expressed that if Serenity had not recognized the warning signs and called 911 when she did, she may not be here today.
