Recognizing the Signs of Trouble
Intuition and swift action can often be the difference between life and death. Gina Ashton, a dedicated caregiver at our Portland East Branch, exemplified this critical vigilance. During her shift with her client, Gina noticed unsettling changes. Her client had been sleeping more than usual throughout the week and had complained of numbness in her fingers. Sensing that these symptoms were serious, Gina’s concern grew.
Immediate Response to an Emergency
Gina immediately reported her observations to the office, who advised her to call 911. However, her client was reluctant to seek medical help and resisted Gina’s suggestion. Demonstrating remarkable persistence and care, Gina eventually convinced her client that calling the paramedics was necessary. This decision proved to be life-saving.
Gina’s Life-Saving Intervention
The following day, the office followed up with the client to check on her condition and she expressed profound gratitude towards Gina, revealing that she had suffered a heart attack and required an emergency pacemaker. The severity of her condition was underscored by the fact that the ambulance had to take her to a different hospital because her pulse was dangerously low. The client acknowledged that without Gina’s insistence and timely action, she might not have survived the ordeal.
Appreciation and Gratitude
Despite her initial reluctance and less-than-friendly demeanor, the client came to deeply appreciate Gina’s dedication. She admitted that she wasn’t the nicest to Gina due to her resistance to going to the hospital, but ultimately, she was incredibly thankful that Gina was there and had persisted in getting her the medical help she needed. “If it was not for Gina, I would not be alive,” the client told Family Resource Home Care, encapsulating the profound impact of Gina’s actions.
Exemplifying Exceptional Care
Gina’s story highlights the crucial role that caregivers play in the lives of their clients. Her ability to recognize the signs of a medical emergency and her determination to ensure her client received the necessary care exemplify the qualities that make a truly exceptional caregiver. For her heroism and dedication, Gina Ashton has been rightfully honored with the prestigious Lifesaver Award at the Portland East Branch.
Dedication Beyond Duty
Gina’s experience is a powerful reminder of the importance of caregivers who are not only skilled but also deeply committed to the well-being of those they care for. Her actions saved a life, and her story serves as an inspiration to all caregivers, reinforcing the impact they can have through their vigilance, compassion, and perseverance.
