A Day in the Life

People who work for Family Resource Home Care as in-home professional caregivers are passionate about providing care that increases the quality of life for our clients and keeps them safe and independent. But what will you really do each day?

Support your clients in activities of daily living by assisting with tasks such as:
  • Cooking and/or serving meals

  • Helping clients bathe, dress, and groom

  • Assisting with household chores such as cleaning and laundry

  • Driving clients to the store or appointments

  • Monitoring and reporting on client condition

  • Being a companion and joining with them in their everyday activities and hobbies

You will have your schedule available via your App or by logging into the Client Care website. The app will tell you where to go, which client you are seeing and the times you will be there. Most caregivers will see clients regularly, so they know much of this information.

Caregivers travel to where the client lives, usually knock and/or enter and greet the client. Caregivers clock in using the app (or call in for those without smartphones), reference the client’s care plan and then perform the set list of tasks or activities each shift. When your shift is over, you leave the client’s home.

Some caregivers see several clients a day, in shorter shifts of 2-4 hours. Some caregivers have only 1 client and spend long hours with that client. Some caregivers “live-in” with clients, which means they stay and sleep at their house for one or more days.

We will try to match you to the types of clients you are comfortable helping, as well as with personalities that mesh with yours. Caregivers also provide companionship and often become like family to their clients.[/fea_fancy_timeline_v1_child][fea_fancy_timeline_v1_child fea_timeline_title=”How do we match caregivers and clients?” fea_timeline_caption=”” fea_timeline_icon=”fa-street-view fas”]

We will work to find clients that match your availability and skill set. The more availability you have, the easier to find you work! We will try our best to pair you with clients who live within a reasonable drive from your home but request your flexibility while we find that perfect match!

[/fea_fancy_timeline_v1_child][fea_fancy_timeline_v1_child fea_timeline_title=”What will your schedule be like?” fea_timeline_caption=”” fea_timeline_icon=”fa-watch fas”]We have clients who need care during all hours of the day/night, or even 24 hours a day! Caregivers can work anytime, day or night, depending on the client’s needs and in shifts ranging from 2 to 12+ hours. This flexibility makes it an excellent career choice for many people.[/fea_fancy_timeline_v1_child][fea_fancy_timeline_v1_child fea_timeline_title=”The Reward” fea_timeline_caption=”” fea_timeline_icon=”fa-badge-check fas”]

There are definitely easier or higher-paying jobs than caregiving; however, a caregiving career provides so much more. Those who are drawn to caregiving do so because it is a calling – something their heart wants to do; or because they want to get hands-on experience in preparation for a career in the healthcare field.

Professional caregivers support and assist senior citizens, and people with chronic disease or disabilities. They are typically trained as home care aides or certified nursing assistants. Working under the guidance of a home care agency, professional caregivers help clients with things like dressing, bathing, toileting, cooking, eating, transportation and tasks around the home. You should be comfortable working with the elderly or people with disabilities or diseases. You will also need to be okay with some health and personal care and occasionally dealing with difficult situations.

Most importantly, are you passionate about improving lives? That is the first clue! Ideally, our employees have some experience in caregiving which could include caring for a family member, for example helping an elderly grandparent, or even formal training with a state licensure (such as HHA, HCA, CNA). However, we do provide training to individuals who want to learn!

Check out our videos to hear why, at the end of the day, the reward for being a caregiver is so much more than a paycheck – it’s a purpose! As one caregiver said, “I’m a person that they look forward to seeing, not just a person coming in for a job.”
