Sometimes the best move is to stay right where you are.
Aging is a process that doesn’t just happen to the senior—but to the whole family. Some of these changes effect where they will live, and age. Families too often assume that when someone needs more help than friends and family can provide, that it’s time to move. After working with many people who came to this conclusion and regretted it, we know that moving is frequently not the best choice. Home Care is often a better option.
While most of our clients are older adults who need some help to remain independent, many others have serious illnesses such as cancer, stroke, Parkinson’s, or Alzheimer’s. We also have many other clients who are younger but are disabled, or have suffered traumatic injuries and need home care for months or even a lifetime.
Even though we are a home care agency, we don’t believe that staying at home is always the ideal choice. Every family is unique with distinctive circumstances. Here are some reasons our clients have found home care to be their best option.
Six Reasons to choose Home Care
1. Honestly, where would you most want to live?
Most of us find comfort living in a familiar place. It is a world that we know and can control. Being able to live life on your schedule, to eat the food you want when you want it is a blessing. Maybe today pudding sounds good for lunch and then going for a ride on this sunny day sounds like fun. Great. We will make it happen because the only schedule is yours. In an assisted living facility you are on their schedule and that can feel confining. It’s not surprising that given a choice, many of us would choose to stay at home and keep our freedom.
2. There’s no risk to try Home Care to see if it’s the right choice for you.
Moving away from your home is such a dramatic change that it can be an emotional strain on the entire family. Home Care from Family Resource takes the pressure off the decision. We can usually start care within 24 hours. Then everyone can relax a little and see if staying home will work without the commitment of uprooting a person and totally changing their world. Will it work for you? It’s easy to find out and not a big commitment.
3. If your needs change, so do our services.
Flexibility is another huge benefit of working with Family Resource Home Care. You may only need the help of one of our experienced caregivers a few hours a day, or even a few hours a week. We have the perfect people to fill these needs. Our experience has taught us that frequently a client’s needs change. This is why we’ve created a system that adapts to your needs using the people you already know and trust. Many people move into a senior living facility believing that all of their needs will be met. Unfortunately, facilities often are not capable of or charge extra for providing the personalized care that we perform.
4. What was a stressful time can become family time.
The realities of taking care of a family member can, particularly over time, become stressful to relationships and unhealthy. Many of our clients tell us that one of the things they most appreciate about our help is the way we take care of the day-to-day challenges so that the time the family spends together can be quality, meaningful time.
5. You get to pick the caregiver.
There is something very comforting for everyone involved when you get to pick the person who will be in your home providing care. We appreciate how important the “chemistry” is in these relationships. That’s why if your caregiver isn’t quite the right fit, you can always request someone else. Many clients tell us that our people become like extended family members. Some of our caregivers have worked with clients for as long 12 years. Contrast this with a facility where you have little control over who provides these personal services.
6. It makes sense to only pay for the care you need.
When you move into a facility the change is dramatic. Besides the time, expense, and stress of the move, residents must pay for facility amenities and services whether they use them or not. Using Family Resource, you only pay for the services you need. From a few hours a week to 24-hour care, you get the benefit of flexibility—and the economic benefits of only paying for the care if and when you need it.
