Our Story
The Story of Family Resource Home Care.

Family Resource Home Care started in 1996. A remarkable fact of how home care has grown in the last ten years is that Family Resource is one of the oldest home care agencies in the greater Seattle area!

Family Resource Home Care started as Family Resource Services, providing geriatric care management – advising families trying to make their way through the eldercare maze. David Lawrence, founder and CEO, was the eighth Washington State member of the National Association of Geriatric Care Managers. As we worked with families dealing with the emotional and practical complexities that often accompanies aging, we saw the growing need for home care services based on a social services, not medical, model.

Family Resource Services became Family Resource Home Care in 2000, reflecting the new emphasis on home care. Sheila McKannay and Laura Henrichs joined the company that year. Since then, Family Resource has experienced steady and sometimes rapid growth. In 2003 Family Resource Home Care was recognized as one of the premier small businesses in Seattle with the awarding of the City of Seattle’s Mayor’s Small Business Award for Business Excellence. Recognition also came in 2003 and 2004 with awards from the Puget Sound Business Journal as one of the top 100 growth businesses in Washington State. In 2004, branch offices in Bellevue and Tacoma were added to better serve clients on the Eastside and in Pierce County. In 2006 the company moved to new offices in the Northgate neighborhood of Seattle.

David Lawrence provides leadership not only for Family Resource Home Care, but on a statewide level. He is a founding board member of the Washington Private Duty Association and currently serves as Treasurer. He is an advisory board member of the University of Washington’s Certificate Program in Gerontology. David continues to be a “hands-on” owner and CEO, helping grow Family Resource Home Care to the largest provider of private duty home care in Washington State.

Family Resource Home Care is proud of its heritage and proud of the fact that we are a family-oriented business committed to caring and respect – for each other, for our clients and for their families. We believe our growth and success is a tribute to the care and attention we give to each client and each employee.
