Susan Quek, Administrative Assistant

Susan QuekWhat I Do

I assist the office staff in ensuring that each call that comes in is dealt with promptly and appropriately. I hear and sense the concern over the phone as clients call in, as well as the relief when they find out we can help and we will help. That is the best part of my work. I also do many of the clerical and administrative tasks that allow the office to run smoothly.

I have worked in the field of health care since my college days many years ago. As a mid-level health care practitioner one of my duties was to check on our patients in nursing homes each month. I witnessed up close, first hand, what the daily experience of partial or total dependence on others for life’s simple daily activities was like. I tried to make my monthly visits a positive experience for each of our patients but knew they needed much more than I could provide. They needed one-on-one loving attention day in and day out.  When the doctor I was working with retired in December 2007, I retired from my medical career as well. It feels like a natural transition to now work with this most wonderful group of people focused on providing the best possible care to maintain dignity and quality of life for our clients.

We have all witnessed in one way or another the distress and misery of someone we care about suffering diminished independence and abilities. In my case I have seen each of my parents spend a (thankfully) brief time in a nursing home, and be miserable because they wanted to be home. We did our best to make that happen but it was difficult. If I had known of Family Resource at the time, my family would definitely have picked up the phone and called.

I have lived in the Northwest most of my life. I visit my 85 year old mother regularly, and since we lost my dad the family has stepped in to help so that her life can be as worry-free as possible.

I love the Northwest, love the outdoors, love walking and day hikes, love the Burke-Gilman trail and participated in the 3-Day 60-mile Breast Cancer Walk to celebrate my 50th birthday.

I have found at FRHC a unique group of people, committed, caring, with a true sense of mission, and a true team sensibility, working together to improve the quality of life of our clients. There is also a sincere dedication to each and every employee, trying to make each situation the best possible for everyone involved. It is a privilege to be a part of this team.
